Today’s learning

Today’s maths has been set on My Maths and is called ‘Mixed calculations over 100’.

Please go through the lesson activities and complete the questions – don’t forget to press ‘mark it!’.

Today’s English has been set on Purple Mash and is called ‘Lily’s dog.‘ In this activity, you need to use apostrophes ().

Apostrophes are mainly used for two reasons.

One is to show that a word has been contracted (made shorter by missing out some letters)

e.g. can not   =   cant

should have  =    shouldve

I will    =   Ill

Apostrophes are also used to show possession. Sometimes it helps to think of this as “belonging to“; being “from” something or somewhere; or being “of” something”

Davids shoe (The shoe that belonged to David)

Annes football (The football that belonged to Anne)

The foxs home (The home that belonged to the fox)

A summer’s day (a day of summer)

Apostrophes are NEVER used to show that there is more than one of something (plural)

e.g. She dropped all the toy’s –  Incorrect

She dropped all of the toys    correct

Sometimes, however, you might have plural followed by an apostrophe to show that something belongs to more than one person/thing.

e.g. April Fools’ Day (The day doesn’t belong to one fool – it belongs to many fools!)

Here are todays pages (the answers from today), followed by yesterdays answers (the answers from yesterday)!

Also, does anybody else find the dog’s stern expression really funny or is it just me?
