Hello, Beech class! You’ve done it – after today, you will have completed your first week of home school! I must say I am so incredibly impressed by how well you (and your parents) have worked! I’m sure it couldn’t have been easy, but the hard work has definitely paid off. It’s been lovely to receive message from you this week and it’s great to see some of you having a chance to write the emails yourself – the emojis do make me smile! 😁
Today is sharing Friday so after today’s learning, I will share some of the things that you have been getting up to this week and I’ll even share a photo or two of something I’ve been getting up to (spoiler alert: it’s usually cooking). Also, I’m getting the impression that if you or your parent share a picture with me, you’re happy for it to go onto the blog. If this isn’t the case, whenever you send a picture that you would rather didn’t go on the blog, please do make that clear in the e-mail.
Today’s maths has been set on My Maths and is called ‘Subtraction lines’.
Please go through the lesson activities and complete the questions – please don’t forget to press ‘mark it!’.
Today’s English has been set on Purple Mash and is called ‘Word families’ and is about root words, prefixes and suffixes.
A root word is a word that provides the most basic meaning of a word.
fold shake phone
A prefix is a letter or group of letters that are added to the beginning of a word to change its meaning.
Un + fold = unfold
tele + phone = telephone
A suffix is a letter or group of letters that are added to the end of a word to change its meaning.
fold + able = foldable
Shake + er = shaker (There’s already an ‘e’ on ‘shake’ so we only needed to add an ‘r‘)
Some root words use both a prefix and a suffix:

Ongoing weekly work
Last chance to work on your times tables on Times Tables Rockstars; to do your spelling on Purple Mash; and to carry out your science experiment. New weekly tasks will be set for you on Monday.
Now, for the moment you have all been waiting for: it’s time to see what Beech class has been getting up to this week! Can you spot your work? Can you guess whose work belongs to whom? Do you see yourself? How about a friend?
I cooked a dish that I haven’t in a long time because it takes me several hours to make it! It’s called ‘Panang curry’ and it’s a dish from Thailand. It takes so long because there are loads of interesting, aromatic ingredients, such as a lemongrass, galangal, coriander root and fresh kaffir lime zest, that have to be finely chopped before being ground into a smooth paste. Here’s some picture of the ingredients, the paste I made and the final result!
If I know Beech class well, I’m sure some of you will be making funny faces, but it was delicious, I assure you! 😜
I’m very proud of the work you’ve done this week. Have a lovely weekend and I will see you next week for some more home school!
